The Challenge: The owner of this hillside home wanted to add
outdoor entertainment space to take advantage of a spectacular
view of Mt. Hood, but disliked the idea of placing major structural
elements on the slope.
The New Outdoor Room
The Solution: A cantilevered support structure for the deck anchored in bedrock minimized visual intrusion into this city neighborhood. And the open design of railing and safety fencing provides an exhilarating eyrie and an unobstructed view. The structure has solidly withstood the major mudslides that recent winters have brought to Portland hillsides, this one among them.
